Rudy Berumen
VARSITY HEAD COACH
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR/OLB
Coach Berumen is entering his 24th year of coaching football and his 3rd as a head coach. After he finished playing at Central Methodist University in 1999, he began coaching linebackers at CMU for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Upon returning home to California in 2002, he began coaching high school football and was a defensive coordinator for a total of 17 years prior to becoming the Head Coach at LOHS. Coach Berumen has coached at several local high schools where he has been part of multiple league championships, playoff appearances, and a CIF championship in 2018 at South Hills High School. Coach Berumen and his wife Lori have been married for 26 years and have 3 children Rudy (21), Gabriel (20), and Jocelyn (16).
Ray Shirley
SAFETIES
Coach Ray is in his second season coaching here on the Los Osos high school football team. This is his 5th year as a high school varsity football coach. Coach Ray loves the game of football, and everything that comes with it. He fortunate enough to be able to continue his athletic and academic journey with an offer to a 4 year university out of high school. Coach Ray’s goal is to use his experience and knowledge to help our athletes stay on track to be able to achieve any goal they may have.
Lyndon Cleghorne
CORNERS/WIDE RECEIVERS
Coach Cleghorne is coaching his third year at Los Osos, but he has been coaching different levels of football for the past 35 years. He has coached Pop Warner and Junior All-American. At the high school level, he has coached at Claremont, Colony, Chino Hills, South Hills, and Damien high schools. He has experience coaching OL/DL, CB/WR, and special teams – Gunners and Returners. He has also coached Track at South Hills and Damien. Coach Cleghorne went to school at New York Technical College. He is married to his wife, Rachel, and they have 3 children, Danielle, Jelani, and Salim. Coach Cleghorne’s words of inspiration: Fundamentals and effort is the doorway to your success.
DANNY PAREDES
RUNNING BACKS
Coach Paredes attended Bosco High School from 1996-2000 where he played WR and Safety. He was able to go back to Bosco and coach at the varsity level from 2003-2005. In 2005 he got married and also had his son Danny Paredes Jr. The following year his daughter Bella Paredes was born. He coached and became the Athletic Director at La Verne/San Dimas Pop Warner from 2016-2018. Coach Paredes’ next stop was Damien high school from 2019-2023. In 2024, Coach Paredes joined the staff at Los Osos High School where he currently coaches the Running Backs.
Mike Randall
VARSITY OL & DL
Coach Randall is excited to start his 21st year at Los Osos High School. He is a 1995 graduate of Rancho Cucamonga High School. He attended Chaffey College and Azusa Pacific University and completed his B.A. in Social Science in 1999 and his Masters in Special Education in 2004. While at Azusa Pacific, Coach Randall was the Center on the National Championship team in1998. Coach Randall began his coaching career at Rancho Cucamonga High School from 2000 to 2001. He then went on to San Bernardino Valley College from 2001-2003. In 2004 Coach Randall started coaching the offensive line at Los Osos High School. In 25 years of coaching he has been the offensive coordinator at Los Osos as well as offensive and defensive line coach. In 2001 Coach Randall married his high school love Kim. They have two children, Madison (20), and Mikey(17).
Gio Russo
WIDE RECEIVERS
Coach Russo played football at LOHS for his first 3 years of HS. He transferred his senior year (during COVID) and played for Coach Berumen at Damien HS for his Senior year. Coach Russo started his coaching career at the youth level while still in high school. He began coaching high school football in 2022 here at LO with coach Berumen. Coach Russo continues to work with the youth and high school students during the off-season where he coaches at Training Performance Athletics (TPA).

Coach Dekkin is entering his third year as part of the Los Osos coaching staff. Dekkin graduated from LOHS in 2023. He started his coaching career as a student coach during his Senior year of high school. Coach Dekkin has a passion for coaching and wishes to one day be a coach at the college or professional level.

Coach Rudy is the son of Head Coach Rudy Berumen and in his first year of coaching. He played his freshman and sophomore season at South Hills HS where he won a CIF Championship in 2018. He finished his High School career at Damien High school where he graduated in 2021. Coach Rudy coaches the OLBs on the Freshman level and is the Defensive Coordinator.
Jonathan Valenzuela
FRESHMAN COACH
O-Line/Inside Linebackers
First-year high school football coach, a proud alumnus of Downey High School, where he played TE. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, he returned with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to shaping young athletes. With six years of coaching experience in youth football, he has honed his skills in providing development and skill training that not only enhances athletic performance but also instills values such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. His dedication to excellence is evident in every practice session and game strategy, as he strives to create an environment where each player can thrive both on and off the field. Beyond coaching, he is a devoted family man, married with two children: Samantha, an all-star cheerleader whose spirit and enthusiasm inspire those around her, and Jonathan Jr., who shares his father’s passion for football and is committed to excelling in the sport. Together, they embody the values of hard work and determination that he aims to instill in his team.
Danny Pierce
FRESHMAN HEAD COACH

Coach Pierce is a Los Osos alumni and played for Coach Randall from 2010-2014. In 2013 he was the offensive line MVP. Coach Pierce returned to Los Osos in 2021 as a freshman coach. He is looking forward to seeing the players accomplish their goals this season based on their hard work in both the weight room and on the field.

Inside Linebackers
Lloyd Bailey is in his second year coaching at Los Osos High School, currently serving as the varsity inside linebackers coach. Last year, he made his coaching debut by coaching at the freshman level. A former standout player at Claremont High School, Bailey earned a full-ride football scholarship to Oregon State, where he excelled on the field. With a strong background in the game and a commitment to developing young talent, Coach Bailey brings his experience and passion to the Los Osos football program.
